Sideline Dad with Coach Javin Foreman is a new segment podcast within the I Am Dad Podcast created to explore what is happening on the sidelines of our children’s lives. In spaces where many parents show up with love, sacrifice, and deep commitment, there is also a growing need to confront the moments when support turns into spectacle, encouragement becomes interference, and what should remain centered on children is overtaken by adult emotion, pressure, and behavior.

In this episode of Sideline Dad, powered by the I Am Dad Podcast Network, host Javin Foreman welcomes John Damon, former Division I football player at Boston College, performance coach, gym designer, and founder of The Cave in Charlotte, North Carolina.
For more than 30 years, John Damon has trained and advised Hollywood talent, Fortune 500 executives, professional athletes, coaches, and high performers. His work has shaped elite training spaces from The Sports Club/LA to Equinox, Active Fitness, IRON, and now The Cave, a private training and recovery sanctuary built around discipline, detail, recovery, and intentional excellence.
But this conversation goes far beyond fitness.
John and Javin explore what it means to build “The Standard” in sports, parenting, leadership, and fatherhood. They discuss how young athletes are shaped by environment, expectations, love, habits, recovery, and the people around them. John challenges parents to think deeply about the culture they create for their children, the standards they model, and the importance of giving kids both love and good information.
This episode explores:
• Why success is never built on talent alone
• How standards shape athletes, families, and leaders
• Why love and safety are essential to high performance
• What parents must understand about AAU culture and sports pressure
• How recovery, sleep, and preparation affect young athletes
• Why fathers should help children build a “board of directors”
• How to support children without solving every problem for them
• Why excellence requires details, discipline, and presence
• What it means to show up when no one is watching
At the heart of John’s message is a simple truth: the standard is not what you say in public. The standard is how you prepare, how you lead, how you love, and how you show up when nobody is keeping score.
